Great Britain – After 32 years the Harding prize has been awarded to a female young tunneller. “I am also proud to be the first woman to win since 1986, which is actually the year I was born,” said Leah Jacobs, who works for London Bridge Associates. Jacobs won the competition bringing her paper on “Changing the safety Culture” based on her contribution to the Waterview Connection project in New Zealand.

Court rules against Glendoe client

Great Britain – A court has issued its ruling on the Glendoe collapse, finding in favour of contractor Hochtief at the expense of client Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE). The decision was given on 21 December and denied SSE a GBP 130M (USD 160M in Jan 2017) damages claim against Hochtief. The contractor will however have to pay low availability damages of GBP 1M (USD 1.24M in Jan 2017) for not completing the remedial work.

Queensland tunnel design contract awarded

Jacobs Associates is providing tunnel design to Thiess Tunnelling on the Narrows Marine Crossing Project, a 4.4km long tunnel that will be constructed under a body of water known as 'The Narrows', the company stated earlier this month.
