British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced its preferred proponent for the Evergreen Line Rapid Transit project in Vancouver, Canada. SNC-Lavalin has been selected by the government to design, build and finance the project.

The SNC-Lavalin team includes the companies Graham Building Services, International Bridge Technologies and Jacobs Associates Canada Corp. Major construction will start later this year, once the contract is signed. The Evergreen Line is on track to be open for service in the summer of 2016.

The British Columbia government is contributing CAD 583M (USD 597M) and will also oversee construction of the project. The government of Canada is contributing up to CAD 417M (USD 427M). TransLink is contributing CAD 400M (USD 410M) and will operate the Evergreen Line when it is complete.

The Evergreen Line will connect the cities of Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam in approximately 15 minutes. It will connect without transfer to the current SkyTrain network at Lougheed Town Centre Station and will integrate with regional bus and West Coast Express networks. The project includes elevated and at-grade guideways, a 2km long bored tunnel, seven stations, power substations, train operating systems, parking facilities, and a vehicle storage and light maintenance facility.
