VDMA releases core-drilling safety brochure
Friday, July 14, 2017 Germany - The core-drilling equipment working group of the VDMA has produced a document describing how to safely fasten core-drilling equipment. The work was carried out in cooperation with Detlev Borstell of the University of Koblenz.
Queen promises High Speed Two

In the 2017 Queen’s Speech, a traditional way in which the priorities of government are announced to the nation, the UK’s head of state briefly touched upon the project amidst an array of other ideas.

Thursday, June 01, 2017 Austria - Contractor Strabag announced that its order backlog on 31 March 2017 had passed the EUR 16bn mark for the first time in the company's history. The full value of the work was EUR 1,611,313,000.
Harding Prize winner 2017
Thursday, May 11, 2017 Great Britain - Omar Mohammed was awarded the 2017 Harding Prize. The Transport for London engineer was recognised for presenting the best paper, as chosen by BTS judges, at the May meeting of the society.
Shieldhall construction halfway complete
Wednesday, May 10, 2017 Great Britain - Work on Glasgow’s Shieldhall project is halfway complete, according to Scottish Water. In an announcement in early May, the client said that the milestone was reached as the TBM passed under Pollok Park. The project will be the longest wastewater tunnel in Scotland when complete.
British explosives standard out for consultation
Friday, May 05, 2017 Great Britain – The Code of practice for the safe use of explosives in the construction industry (BS 5607) is currently out for consultation. The period began on 19 April and public comment ends on 20 June.
Lower Thames Crossing route announced
Friday, April 28, 2017 Great Britain - Transport Secretary Chris Grayling announced the preferred route for the Lower Thames Crossing in April. The new crossing will create a new link between the A2 and the M25 and ease the burden on the busy Dartford Crossing.
Stad ship tunnel approved
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 Norway – Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen has given the go-ahead to the Stad Tunnel, the world’s first ship tunnel. The announcement came after the release of the country’s National Transport Plan 2018-2029. Funding has been earmarked for the project in the first half of this period. The earliest the project could start is 2019.
Mini-Cam expands into Austria
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 Austria – The pipeline inspection equipment company Mini-Cam has opened a new factory in Austria. The site was set up for its subsidiary, InPipe Innovation and it has allowed the subsidiary to move from a small workshop to a 7,500 sq ft (700 sq m) facility in the Alpine village of Riezlern, Kleinwalsertal, near the German border.
TfL takes on TUCA
Thursday, March 23, 2017 Great Britain – Transport for London (TfL) will take over the running of Crossrail’s Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy. The UK’s only publicly owned transportation operator signed a contract with Prospect’s College of Advanced Technology to run the academy.

Wednesday, March 22, 2017 Germany/Denmark – Femern has signed contracts with Ramboll-Arup-TEC JV for the supply of client consultancy services and with ÅF – Hansen & Henneberg for the supply of in-house consultancy services. The contracts cover consultancy services and technical support for the establishment of the fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt.

Sandvik and IBM to develop productivity and maintenance system

Sandvik described the move as a collaboration that will bring advanced analytics to the mining and rock excavation Industry.
CBE to celebrate 30 years
Thursday, March 09, 2017 France - Segment mould manufacturer CBE will celebrate its 30th anniversary on 13 March 2017. In this time the company has supplied 170 carousels, manufactured 22,500 segment moulds, amassed a workforce of 230 and supported 480 projects in 51 countries.
HS2 gets Royal Assent, ministers and executives react
Friday, March 03, 2017 Great Britain - The UKs new north-south rail link has made it through the final round of parliamentary debate. The High Speed Rail (London – West Midlands) hybrid Bill – essentially the planning application for HS2 – received overwhelming support from MPs. In the Bill’s third reading in the Commons MPs voted 399 to 42 in favour. In the Lords, the figures were 386 to 26 in support of the Bill passing.
Tarada recognised with third industry Fellowship
Wednesday, March 01, 2017 Great Britain - Fathi Tarada, director of ventilation specialist Mosen has been awarded a Fellowship from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The award adds to Fellowships from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, awarded in 2001 and the Institution of Fire Engineers, awarded in 2012.

BSI revises engineering drawings standard
Thursday, February 16, 2017 Great Britain - The British Standards Institution (BSI) has revised BS 8888:2017 - Technical product documentation and specification. The latest version is a comprehensive update to the UK’s national framework standard for engineering drawings and geometrical tolerancing.
