CBE appoints new CEO
Tuesday, December 19, 2017 France - Philippe Samama has replaced Didier Lefebvre as CEO of segment mould manufacturer CBE. The company made the announcement in October and said that Lefebvre would continue to work with CBE for a few months to provide continuity.

Breakthrough on the Northern Line Extension
Thursday, November 23, 2017 Great Britain - The two TBMs mining the Northern Line Extension project in London have broken through. Launched in February 2017, the two 6m-diameter EPBMs bored twin 3.2km tunnels running from Battersea to Kennington, with the second breakthrough taking place on 8 November.

Wednesday, November 01, 2017 Germany - Herrenknecht has taken in its annual set of apprentices. Among the 56 this year and, the Germany TBM manufacturer has hired five refugees for the first time. The new hires are training for occupations such as mechatronics engineers, industrial, structural and machining mechanics, electronics engineers, industrial business administrators, specialists for metal technology, technical product designers or IT specialists.
Shieldhall breakthrough

Murphy’s new CEO
Wednesday, October 11, 2017 Great Britain - J. Murphy & Sons Limited has appointed John Murphy as its new CEO. Murphy was the company’s current chief operating officer as Tunnels and Tunnelling went to print, responsible for leading the group’s operations in the UK and abroad. CEO Steve Hollingshead will step down at the end of the year (December 2017) and take up a role as non-executive director on the company’s board.

Final Emscher breakthrough
Friday, August 11, 2017 Germany - Tunnelling and pipe jacking has concluded on the Emscher sewer. The final drives, two 10km-long main collectors in the town of Oberhausen, were carried out by contractor Porr between October 2014 and June 2017 using two Herrenknecht 3,397mm EPBMs.
Fugro bags geotechnical contracts at York Potash
Wednesday, August 02, 2017 Great Britain - Fugro has been awarded two contracts for geotechnical and geophysical investigations at the York Potash project. The project is to develop the world’s largest known high grade polyhalite deposit. Construction includes a new mine to extract the ore, a 37km tunnel hosting an underground mineral transportation system (MTS), a granulation facility in Teesside, and an export quay on the River Tees.
Contractor fined for Crossrail incidents

Atlas Copco takes share of Swedish software company
Wednesday, July 26, 2017 Sweden – Atlas Copco has taken a 34 per cent stake of Mobilaris MCE, a Swedish software company that ‘optimises underground mining operations’ The company, based in Luleå, produces software that gives situational awareness in mines, real-time positioning and vehicle status information, as well as details on personnel and equipment on a 3D user interface.
HS2 Phase One Stage One winners announced
