Monday, August 05, 2019 California – Murali Hariharan has been appointed senior tunnel engineer for the national tunnel practice of HNTB Corporation; the company announced July 30. He continues working on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project in Los Angeles as lead engineer for construction support services and has undertaken geotechnical tasks on XpressWest High Speed Rail project from Victorville, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada, being provided at an accelerated schedule. He is based in HNTB’s downtown Los Angeles office.

Friday, June 28, 2019 USA – The state legislatures of New York and New Jersey passed identical bills creating a bi-state commission charge with the financial oversight of the Gateway Tunnel project on June 20.

Wednesday, June 26, 2019 Canada – BC Hydro announced June 24 it has reached a major milestone on the Site C project with a breakthrough on the excavations of the first of two diversion tunnels on June 22.

Wednesday, June 26, 2019 USA – Alexandria, Virginia, announced its preferred alignment for a deep tunnel sewer, excavated by TBM, on June 19, releasing an environmental assessment for comment through July 19.
Metro unveils Purple Line phase 2 TBMs
Friday, June 21, 2019 US - The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) joined elected officials and community members in Century City for a ceremonial naming and unveiling of its second set of TBMs that will dig twin subway tunnels between Beverly Hills and Century City, on Monday. Subway tunnelling is expected to begin in early 2020.

Final breakthrough at Emisor Oriente
Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Mexico – The final breakthrough was celebrated at Lot 4 of Mexico City’s Túnel Emisor Oriente (TEO) in May after marking the completion of ten years and 62.1km of tunnelling. The contractor, Carso Infraestructura y Construcción (CARSO) completed the drive with the last of six 8.93m diameter Robbins EPBs.

LVCVA approves contract with The Boring Company
Monday, May 27, 2019 USA – The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Board of Directors on May 22 approved a USD 48.7M contract with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company (TBC) to design and construct a people mover for the Las Vegas Convention Center that could rapidly and safely carry passengers in autonomous electric vehicles via a loop of underground express-route tunnels.

Eastside Interceptor Rehabilitation phase 2 begins
Thursday, May 09, 2019 USA – The Eastside Interceptor Rehabilitation Project in Renton, Washington has begun. The project will clean, improve and extend the life of approximately 1 mile (1.6km) of 96in (2,400mm) aging sewer pipe that carries 45M gallons (204M litres) of wastewater per day.
Behrman Capital acquires Waterline
Friday, April 12, 2019 Illinois--Waterline Renewal Technologies, provider of engineered products used in the trenchless rehabilitation of wastewater infrastructure for municipal, commercial, industrial and residential applications, has been acquired by private equity investment firm Behrman Capital.

Breakthrough at Emisor Oriente
Friday, March 15, 2019 Mexico – A breakthrough ceremony was held at Lot 5 of the Emisor Oriente project in February. The contractor, Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA) completed the 6km drive with an 8.93m-diameter Robbins EPBM. The drive required excavation through mixed face conditions, notably containing abrasive basalt.
