Compensation scheme for listed workers

Eight major construction companies announced a scheme to compensate workers whose names were on The Consulting Association (TCA) database. The practice of listing workers, and thus negatively affecting their reputations, is known colloquially as ‘blacklisting’ in the UK. The debate surrounding the TCA has been prominent in the last year.

London tunnel fit-out contract awarded

A tunnel fit-out job for the new rail tunnels under London has been awarded to a JV comprising Costain, French trackwork specialist TSO and Alstom Transport, Crossrail announced last week. The job to design and install track and tunnel equipment is the last major construction contract to be awarded.

Balfour Beatty appoints new chief executive

Andrew McNaughton, currently deputy chief executive and chief operating officer of Balfour Beatty, will become chief executive of the company from 31 March 2013, it was announced earlier this week. The current chief executive, Ian Tyler, will remain with the group until the end of April.

New contract awarded for Hong Kong MTR line

Hong Kong's MTR Corporation has awarded a USD 440M tunnelling contract on the new Shatin to Central Link (SCL) railway to Gammon Construction, which is 50 per cent owned by Balfour Beatty. The company will work alongside Kaden Construction on the project.
