Crossing the Capital

Crossrail has a very long history, with the idea for an east-west rail route across London first mooted by Brunel in 1840. After this all was quiet until 1974, when the London Rail Study took place; it was at this time that Ken Livingstone (now Mayor of London) started campaigning for a cross London railway. Many people have been involved in the project over the last 30 years.
