Underground space group formed in the UK

GREAT BRITAIN – A new group for the intelligent use of underground space has been formed in London. Billing itself as the ‘Multi-disciplinary Activity Group for the Use of Underground Space’ (Mag2us), it has held two meetings since its formation in September.

Harding Prize 2016 submissions invited

GREAT BRITAIN - 2016 Harding Prize. Entries are now being accepted, with entry open to those aged 33 or younger on 1st January 2016. The entry is to consist of an original paper relating to any aspect of tunnelling which the entrant considers to be of interest to others in the tunnelling industry, with this submitted to the BTS Secretary by 31st January 2016.

Road Tunnel Association to be formed

GREAT BRITAIN – The Road Tunnel Operator Association (RTOA) is set to become the Road Tunnel Association (RTA). Mouchel’s technical director for tunnels and engineering Peter Bishop has returned to the association as chairman to manage the transition.

Record breaking year for BTS D&C course

GREAT BRITAIN - 88 people attended this year’s Tunnel Design and Construction (D&C) Course, in June - July at the University of Warwick. The five day course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of tunnelling.

Arup director leads BTS Young Member workshop in the Midlands

GREAT BRITAIN - David Twine, director at Arup, has led a contract management and procurement workshop in Birmingham for the BTS Young Members. The workshop, which took place in June this year, was aimed at soon-to-be or newly chartered engineers.
