TBMs leaving site on the Sydney Metro project

Australia – The four 7m-diameter Herrenknecht double shields that excavated the tunnels for the City & Southwest phase of the Sydney Metro are being lifted out of construction sites and are leaving the city. Between them they have excavated 30km of twin metro tunnel and only the slurry TBM for the harbour crossing remains.

Sydney Metro finishes city centre tunnels

Australia – Four out of five drives for the Sydney Metro’s ‘City and Southwest’ phase have been completed. The most recent breakthrough was into Barangaroo Station. These drives represent the entirety of the city centre tunnels, with only a second tube crossing the harbour still to be completed. As of 21 January, some 97% of tunnel excavation had been completed.

Cross River Rail awards fit-out contract

Australia – The Cross River Rail project in Brisbane has awarded the second major contract, which is for the upgrading of seven stations, installing rail infrastructure in the tunnels and integrating the project with the existing network.

Link Alliance awarded City Rail Link TBM tunnels contract

New Zealand – The Auckland City Rail Link main design construction contract (C3) was awarded in July. The NZD 1.7bn (USD 1.12bn) tender was scooped by the Link Alliance, a joint venture of Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Downer NZm Soletanche Bachy, WSP Opus, Aecom and Tonkin & Taylor.
