Four killed in parking row

3 August 2011

Four tunnel workers were killed and 16 injured after a fight broke out over a parking space in Longnan City, Gansu Province, China. Workers from the construction crew of the Wuguan highway, a section of the Lanzhou-Haikou highway, fought with workers from the Lanzhou to Chonqing railway construction team.

The Lanzhou to Chonqing workers detonated the explosives later in revenge, reported the state-run Xinhua news network. The four deaths were all from the Wuguan team. Two were killed on site, one in an ambulance and one in hospital. A further 16 remain in hospital care.

The Wuguan highway and Lanzhou Chonqing railway began as part of the reconstruction following the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.
