UK-based utility services provider Fastflow which undertakes a wide range of specialist gas pipeline installation projects has set an inspiring example for other firms in underground construction. Following its decision to furlough around 80% of its 1,100 employees, members of the company’s board have voted to take an 80% pay cut; the executive team has accepted a 54% cut.

Of the employees who are still at work, many are working from home, with those on-site observing safety protocols such as the wearing of PPE, travelling to site alone and avoiding sharing equipment.

CEO and Chairman, Neil Armstrong, said: “We have all faced working and personal difficulties over the past few weeks. For us it has been ensuring that everyone stays safe and healthy as we work on the UK’s gas and water networks and carry out important repairs to people’s homes.

The firm’s current ongoing projects include mains renewal schemes and ensuring the safe operation of the national gas transmission network.
