Construction bodies call for greater payment integrity

6 May 2020

In a bid to safeguard cash-flow and ensure the survival of businesses and jobs, two industry bodies are urging the UK construction sector to act decisively to ensure payments are made on time. The Construction Industry Coronavirus (CICV) Forum and Construction Scotland have stressed that the sector must be more forceful in ensuring cash-flow integrity. The calls come after evidence emerged that some businesses are extending credit terms or delaying payments.

Alan Wilson, chair of the CICV Forum and managing director of SELECT said: “The construction sector is facing extraordinary difficulties at the moment and these problems will only be exacerbated if anyone delays or refuses to pay their suppliers.” He described such behaviour as unacceptable and the wrong response to the current situation.
