Work starts for Niagara tunnel

21 October 2005

On 14 September, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) announced it had started work for the construction of the 10.4km long Niagara Tunnel Project. The tunnel will be built by Strabag AG using a 14.4m diameter TBM , said to be the largest used in Ontario when boring gets underway in August next year. Strabag won a US$844M design and construct contract in August, of which US$514M accounts for the tunnel scope.
