Turin breakthrough

4 January 2004

On the 9th December the contracting JV of Grando Lavori Fincosit/SELI successfully completed boring the 2.6km long, US$37.8M Lot IV tunnel on the Turin Metro's 9.6km long Line 1. The breakthrough, after 9.5 months of boring, marks the first tunnel completed on a project that comprises three bored tunnel lots being constructed by three TBMs, two new 7.8m diameter Lovat EPBMs (for the 3.6km long Lot III and Lot IV) and a refurbished 8m diameter NFM machine (for the 2.9km long Lot V).
