Tunnel project named in price-fixing investigation

Four international tunnel construction companies, including Skanska, Veidekke and NCC, were recently reported by the Norwegian Competition Authority for alleged price-fixing, in cases stretching back to 1994.

Norway's National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (Økokrim) will now study the portfolio handed to them, which involves mostly civil engineering projects valued at more than US$346M. Among these is the high-speed train project, linking Oslo to the new international airport at Gardermoen, which includes the 13.9km-long Romeriks tunnel, completed in 1998 – the longest of its kind in Norway. However, details of the allegations have not been made public.
