Skansa secures Norwegian tunnels work
9 June 2023Skanska has signed a contract with the Norwegian Road Authority to deliver a section of Norway’s E18 motorway, including two tunnels.
Under the NOK4.6bn (€395m) contract Skanska will design and build a 2.3km section of the new three-lane motorway, running between Fornebukrysset and Strand, on the outskirts of Oslo. The contract includes the 660m-long Høvik Tunnel and the 440m-long Gjønnes Tunnel, as well as local roads and pedestrian and cycle paths.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and the project will be completed in early 2030. The project will follow BREEAM Infrastructure – level Excellent environmental requirements.
The E18 is the major connecting road in the south of Norway, running along the southern coast and into Sweden. It will replace one of Norway’s busiest road sections.
