3 May 2011

Robert Milner of Halcrow presented the winning paper at the BTS Harding Prize competition last month. Milner’s paper: ‘Settlement due to tunnelling on the West Ham Flood Alleviation Scheme’ was voted the award over the other two finalists.

Spyridon Konstantis of Arup also presented his paper: ‘Probalistic assessment of face stability conditions for shallow tunnels in soft ground’ and Andreas Feiersinger of Dr. Sauer & Parners presented his paper: ‘Comparison of deformations predicted using 3D finite element analysis with deformations encountered during construction’, with a focus on London’s Green Park Station.

After the talks, each of the finalists had to respond to questions from the audience before the judges announced the prize-winner. The next competition will be held in two years. Anyone under the age of 33 at the end of 2012 may enter.
