Pajares contracts signed

The four contracts for the 25km long twin-tube Pajares railway tunnel in Spain were awarded over the last couple of months. The US$1.37bn project forms part of the León-Gijón section of the high-speed railway. Final tunnel design and TBM procurement should soon be complete with early 2004 set for construction-start.

Lot 1 was awarded to a JV comprising FCC Construcción and Necso Entrencanales Cubiertas.

Lot 2 was awarded to the Dragados/ACS/Obras Subterráneas JV.

Lot 3 was awarded to Ferrovial Agromán/Sacyr/Cavosa JV.

A joint venture of Construcciones y Obras Públicas y Civiles, Fernández Constructor, AZVI and Constructora Hispánica won Lot 4.
