Louis appointed VP of Samsung C&T

Samsung C&T, the global construction arm of Samsung Group, today announced that Daniel A. Louis, has joined the company as vice president and technical director for the civil engineering division. In this new position, Dan will focus on tunnelling and underground projects worldwide, and will also develop new projects and opportunities in the Americas and Australasia.

A Samsung spokesman told T&T, “Louis has more than 26 years of experience in tunnelling, heavy civil construction, and mining with emphasis in program management. He has worked on a number of prominent projects including East Side Access (NY), Antamina Mine (Peru), West Rail (Hong Kong) and the Los Angeles Metro. Most recently he served as vice president, infrastructure and tunnelling services for URS.”

Louis is based at Samsung C&T headquarters in Seoul, Korea and will also work with Samsung’s US offices in California and Texas. In addition to marketing and business development, he will provide technical support to ongoing Samsung’s overseas projects including those in Singapore, India and the Middle East. Louis has a B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. His professional affiliations include the UCA of the Society of Mining Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Louis is the 1993 Winner of the British Tunnelling Society’s Harding Prize.
