Ionian Mega Lot 3 more than 50% complete
5 March 2024Work is progressing on the Ionian highway in southern Italy, with the latest milestone the breakthrough of the 1,200m-long south barrel diaphragm on the Roseto 1 Tunnel.
Webuild has now completed 57% of the Mega Lot 3 contract, which it is carrying out for Italy’s state road agency, ANAS, part of the infrastructure division of FS Italiane Group. It commenced works on the Calabria section of the Ionian highway in May 2020.
Mega Lot 3 covers a 38km section of the Ionian highway. It includes 10km of tunnels – three rock tunnels and 11 cut and cover tunnels – and 7km of viaducts. The section will contribute to connecting the Ionian coasts of Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia.
