Chunnel documentary tonight in UK

13 September 2004

A reminder for UK readers that a documentary will be shown on Channel 5 tonight at 8pm as part of the "Megastructures" series about the building of the Channel Tunnel, called "Hard Won Triumph".

T&TI were approached by the programme-makers to help find suitable locations for reconstructions and were able to elicit the help of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) London Tunnels teams. Filming took place earlier this year on the Nishimatsu-Cementation Skanska Contract 220 site for the episode.

The programme summary describes: "The Channel Tunnel is the world's longest undersea railway tunnel, built in one of the world's most hostile environments. Yet in the face of runaway costs, an epic battle with flood and a near-disastrous fire, the Channel Tunnel's story is a hard won triumph."
