Airport Link gets TBM

12 January 2010

A Herrenknecht EPBM last month arrived in Australia ready to work on Brisbane’s Airport Link project. The machine has a nominal torque of 20461kNm and is powered by 14 350kw motors, giving it a thrust of 88976kN.

Thesis John Holland JV

is operating the TBM as a

joint venture. TJH has been contracted to design and construct the project,

which incorporates the Airport Link, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade.

Upon completion, the

tunnel will have a steel fibre precast reinforced segmental lining in a 9+1 configuration.

The tunnel wall lining will

have a vitreous enamel coating on the surface.

The machine arrived at Brisbane’s Kalinga Park

worksite from Germany on

10 December. LS International Cargo was the forwarder for Herrenknecht, and shipping

was handled by Beluga

Projects. McAleese Transport undertook local transport

in Australia.
