MTR Corporation Limited in Hong Kong has awarded a EUR 280M (USD 362M) contract for the Hin Keng to Diamond Hill tunnels, which are part of the new Shatin to Central Link (SCL) mass transit railway. VINCI Construction Grands Projets has won the contract, the company
announced yesterday.

The contract comprises the construction of a 2,475m of drill and blast tunnel and 1,400m of twin tunnels to be excavated by means of a slurry TBM with a diameter of 7.4m. The work, which commenced this week, has a contract duration of 68 months.

The new SCL is split into 10 main contracts and provides for the realisation of a 12km underground mass transit line, the construction
of four new stations and the reconfiguration of 2 interconnecting stations. The SCL will extend the railway network to areas not yet
served by the MTR. It will provide direct interchanges to facilitate access to every corner of the territory. It is forecast that in 2021,
more than one million passenger trips will be made on the SCL per day,

VINCI Construction Grands Projets has participated in the construction of the Hong Kong Mass Transit railway between 1998 and 2002, with the completion of five tunnels under the Black Hill Mountains for the extension to the town of Tseung Kwan O.
