Punjab government signs Lahore Orange Metro agreement with China

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Chairman of China's National Development Reforms Commission (NDRC) signed an agreement in Shanghai on 22 May to launch ‘Lahore Orange Line Metro Train.’

Pakistan's President Mamnoon Hussain and his Chinese counterpart witnessed the signing ceremony, according to Pakistan's Dunya News Television Channel.

As per details, the project will cost USD 1.6bn and will be completed within 27 months.

The train route will be 27.1km long, spread from Ali Town to Thokar Niaz Baig, from Multan Road to Scheme Mor, Chowburji, MAO College, Mall Road, Laxmi Chowk and Railway Station, from Garhi Shahu Bridge to GT Road and UET and from Pakistan Mint to Dera Gojran.

On the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that the project on completion will benefit "millions of commuters."

The Chief Minister stated that this revolutionary project is an important milestone in the country's history.

He said the project will begin by the end of this year and Chinese authorities will invest, design, construct and monitor this project.
