A crew member on Indianapolis’ Deep Rock Connector Tunnel project died Friday in the early morning while working underground, project owner Citizens Energy reported.

William "Isaac" Simpson, 25, was employed by the Shea-Kiewit JV contracted to build the tunnel project. The cause of death is still unknown.

"Our hearts go out to the worker's family. Thank you for your patience as we gather the details of this incident," Citizens Energy said in a statement issued Friday.

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration and police are investigating his death.
