Third phase of Delhi Metro contract awarded

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a contract for design and construction of the 4.4km long tunnel for the third phase of Delhi Metro. Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) in joint venture with Samsung C&T won the contract worth INR 86.6bn (USD 1.6bn).

The tunnel will be built on Janakpuri West-Kalindikunj corridor and is fifth contract awarded to HCC from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the company stated. The project is expected to be completed in 39 months.

The tunnel will be constructed using shield tunnel boring machine. The contract also includes construction of three underground metro stations and related architectural works at Janakpuri West, Dabri Mor and Dashrath Puri and interchange facilities between existing elevated metro station and proposed undergound station using cut and cover method.
