Normet strengthens UK team

7 November 2012

Sergio Matias has joined the Normet UK team as the technical manager for underground construction and mining, the company announced late last week. Sergio, who joined in October 2012, is now part of a 10 man team supporting tunnels contractors, mining companies and designers.

Matias is a civil engineer originating from Portugal. He has had numerous roles focused on high performance concrete production in such places as Angola, Portugal and the UK. His recent role developing high performance sprayed concrete on Crossrail as a contractor has broadened his technical capability, the company stated. Matias is supporting the industry as a member of the new BTS SCL Best Practice Group and actively contributes to the group reviewing applicable testing methods and materials for successful sprayed concrete tunnel linings.

Earlier this year, Normet acquired the remaining 60 per cent of construction chemicals manufacturer TAM International following a two year partnership with the construction chemicals manufacturer and distributor. Normet stated that this was a clear move to become the world's leading expert in underground construction processes such as concrete spraying.
