Munro steps up to Thiess helm

Bruce Munro was yesterday bestowed with the position of managing director of Thiess, subsidiary of Australian conglomerate Leighton Holdings. Munro previously donned the cap of chief executive, mining and general manager, Asia for Thiess. He was appointed acting managing director in August.

Leighton Holdings CEO Hamish Tyrwhitt said, “Munro was an excellent choice for the role given his knowledge of the company and his strong track record in running complex businesses both in Australia and across Asia.

"He is a highly experienced, long serving Thiess Executive who has the determination and drive to successfully take Thiess forward while dealing with the challenges we face.”

A Leighton spokesman added, “Munro started his 25-year career with Thiess as a project manager with the company’s construction business in Indonesia before being appointed country manager for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and he served as president director, Indonesia for eight years. He has extensive international and mining experience, and a strong commitment to the values of the business.”
