Mott MacDonald joins Jaipur metro project

30 March 2011

Mott MacDonald announced this month that it had been made the technical and general consultant for the Jaipur metro project in India. The INR 100bn (USD 2.2bn) project will run for 35km, divided between two corridors: north-south and east-west.

Mott MacDonald will prepare technical documents and review existing work during the bid process. Completion of the project has been scheduled for mid-2013.

“The city of Jaipur is one of India’s most sought after tourist destinations and we are delighted to play a key role in such a prestigious project,” said project director Gaurav Srivastava.

“This project continues our association with metro development in India, having previously been involved in metro projects in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. This project will be quite challenging as we aim to provide innovative solutions to the interchange of the two corridors between underground and elevated stations.”

The metro was proposed to relieve traffic and make the city more environmentally friendly. Jaipur has had the second fastest growth rate of any city in India, its population has been projected to hit eight million by 2031.
