ITA launches its seventh tunnelling awards
19 May 2021ITA – the International Tunnelling Association – has launched the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards 2021. This follows the success of the first six instances of the awards held as in-person events in Switzerland, Singapore, France, China, USA, and last year as a highly successful digital event.
This year, the 2021 event will also be digital to comply with prevailing pandemic requirements. Last year’s online event attracted a total of 700 participants plus an exhibition with eight sponsors.
The 2020 digital event was a success as it allowed more people than ever, especially those typically unable or unwilling to travel to a conference, to learn about the tunnelling sector’s triumphs.
This year, the ITA has made a small change to the categories, mainly to better express what is expected: a new category ‘Beyond engineering – making underground works projects even better’ replaces the former ‘Overcoming the challenge’ category. The closing date for entries is 30 June.
The eight categories are:
- Major Project of the Year (more than €500m)
- Project of the Year (€50-500m)
- Project including Renovation of the Year (under €50m)
- Technical Innovation of the Year
- Beyond Engineering (making underground works projects even better)
- Oddities of the Underground
- Innovative and Contributing Underground Spaces
- Young Tunneller of the Year (35 years-old and under).
