Herrenknecht has strengthened its portfolio of automated drilling rigs and equipment by acquiring a majority stake in H Anger’s Söhne Bohr- und Brunnenbaugesellschaft.

Herrenknecht says the Hessisch Lichtenau-based drilling contractor is well known for drilling several challenging geothermal wells.

CEO Dr -Ing Martin Herrenknecht said the move provided “an ideal addition to our product range in the field of automated drilling rigs”.

“We will use the shared entrepreneurial and engineering DNA to drive forward the heat transition and simplify access to natural resources,” he said.

Geothermal energy is key to Germany achieving its goal of 50% carbon neutral heat generation by 2030. The plan will increase demand for new drilling rigs, equipment and drilling services.

H Anger’s Söhne Bohr- und Brunnenbaugesellschaft mbH employs around 150 people. It specialises in drilling geothermal wells to depths of up to 7,000m. It also undertakes projects for reservoir and subsurface investigations, and drinking, mineral and thermal water.
