Contract awarded for Swedish motorway

Sweden's Transport Administration has awarded Norwegian firm Veidekke Construction a SEK 540M (81.5M) contract to build a four-lane motorway on road 40 between Borås and Ulricehamn.

The contract comprises Road 40 Phase II, Dållebo-Hester, and involves construction of 7km of motorway, seven bridges, 400m of tunnel through Vistbergen and rock, water and drainage, tunnel and concrete work. When all stages of Dållebo-Hester work are completed, road 40/E4 will have motorway standard between Gothenburg and Ulricehamn, and central reservations all the way from Gothenburg to Stockholm.

The work, which is an implementation contract will be carried out in collaboration between Veidekke Construction SydVäst and Veidekke Tunnel and Cavern. Work will begin in December and the route is expected to take three years to complete.

"The joy was great when it turned out that Veidekke been entrusted to build Phase 2 along route 40," said Peter Robbins, Veidekke Construction. "We began to calculate the project in May and it is a charged and strong team that will implement the project."
