Sweden – Epiroc has made some changes to its Meyco ME3 concrete sprayer. The upgrades are to the conveying system, the water system, switching cylinders, the telematics system (Certiq, for Epiroc) and the boom base/turret.

Atlas Copco has agreed to acquire the Switzerland-based Meyco Equipment business from BASF Construction Chemicals Europe, it was announced mid-December. Atlas Copco stated that the contract broadens its offering with mobile equipment for applying sprayed concrete in underground operations.

Although passing through tunnels is statistically one of the safest means of transport, major incidents have given the impression of wider potential danger. The aftermath of the Mont Blanc Tunnel fire and tunnel safety surveys have highlighted real areas of concern. Much of the subsequent attention has been on protecting tunnel structure by so-called ‘passive’ means, but humanitarian concerns must be focused on the speed of getting travellers away from the hazardous areas as soon as possible, for the dangers to life work much more quickly than dangers to structure.
