Last month the world’s oldest working digital computer was rebooted after three years of painstaking rebuilding. The machine was found in a storeroom where it had been left abandoned for 15 years. In its prime in the 1950s the computer had been used by the UK’s atomic energy research programme. The 2.5t machine will now take pride of place at Bletchley Park, the site of the English code breaking efforts during World War II.

Germany's minister of economic affairs, Philipp Rösler, visited a Herrenknecht jobsite in India earlier this month, the company announced. Rösler, visited the "Mandi House" metro jobsite in New Delhi at the beginning of November 2012, gaining in advance an idea of German-Indian economic relations.

A TBM with a 11.46m diameter has been supplied for the construction of the new metro Line 4 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Brazilian construction companies Construtora Norberto Odebrecht S.A/Construtora Queiroz Galvao S.A/Carioca Christiani Nielsen Engenharia has accepted the Herrenknecht AG machine, which will be used to bore a 4.6km long section of the 14km metro line.

Lothar Späth resigned from the position of supervisory board chairman for Herrenknecht due to age reasons at the company's supervisory board meeting earlier this week. Späth, who held the position for 14 years, is succeeded as supervisory board chairman by the chairman of the board of management of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, Hans-Jörg Vetter.

TGV Paris-Strasbourg milestone reached ahead of schedule

TBM Charlotte has reached the west side of the Vosges Mountains, completed excavation for the first tube of the Tunnel de Saverne, two months earlier than planned. The tunnel, which is part of the TGV Paris-Strasboug line, was completed in late June 2012, Herrennecht announced last week.

The first tube has broken through on Tunnel de Saverne. The machine boring the high speed rail project in the Vosges Mountains in eastern France reached the western side two months ahead of schedule. Turkish group STFA has announced the construction of a water supply tunnel underneath the Bosphorus strait, which spans the Bosporus linking Asia to Europe.The tunnel will be operational next month.
