Assembly has started in Buenos Aires on the first of two 4.66m-diameter Terratec EPB TBMs that will bore the Argentine capital’s Rio Subterraneo a Lomas tunnel. The 13km-long tunnel will form a key part of the multi-billion dollar Agua Sur water infrastructure project - the country’s largest such undertaking in 40 years - and provide fresh water for 2.5 million people in the Southeast Buenos Aires metropolitan district.

Excavation starts on Lesotho tunnels

Following a halt due to Covid 19, work has now resumed on Phase 2 of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project with the start of excavation of two diversion tunnels on the Senqu River. The tunnels will not only enable the construction of the Polihali Dam, but also increase floodwater-carrying capacity and provide the ability to work in one tunnel while the river flows through the other.

Argentina – The second of two new 4.66m diameter Terratec EPBMs has been delivered for a 13.5km potable water tunnel system, in Buenos Aires. Factory acceptance for the TBM, which was manufactured for the Río Subterráneo a Lomas tunnel, took place in July.
