Hatch opens new California offices

US—Hatch has announced the opening of two new offices to boost its presence in the United States. Earlier this year, a full service Urban Solutions office was opened in Oakland California, and more recently in Los Angeles, a new Global Centre of Excellence for infrastructure. Both offices will focus on the efficient delivery of strong-performing infrastructure, in water, transit, and energy.

New tunneling standards to be proposed

North America – The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is working on putting forth standards for the tunnelling industry. During a meeting held in October by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Pressure Vessel for Human Occupancy (ASME PVHO) Committee, ASI Marine’s (ASI) Hyperbaric Tunneling Specialist, Jerry East was nominated and awarded a position on the Diving Subcommittee. East has extensive experience in compressed air tunnelling, commercial diving and marine construction. He will serve as both a Diving Sub-committee member and an active member of the Tunneling Task Group.

Rumblings from the City Hall of Prague suggest a new tunnel complex may be planned for the Czech capital. The story was broken in late November by the economicsfocused Prague daily newspaper ‘Hospodárské noviny’. The project hopes to complete the Prague’s inner ring road and resolve the city’s traffic problems. According to the newspaper, around CZK 80M (USD 3.14M) has been put aside for design and study preparations in 2017. Of course the Final project will be far more, around CZK 50bn (USD 1.97bn) according to early estimates.

Latin America - Pipeline inspection equipment supplier Mini Cam has appointed its first Latin American distributor. Spain-based Mejoras Energeticas gives Mini-Cam access to markets in Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize and El Salvador.The company will also handle servicing and spare parts.

Tunnelling event cancelled without warning

Netherlands – A tunnelling conference was cancelled at the last minute this month. According to sources, a number of delegates and speakers had arrived for the Global Tunnels Safety and Fire Protection Summit only to be told by the hotel that the bill had not been paid and the organisers failed to turn up.
