WTC2023 – Pakistan joins ITA

This year’s World Tunnelling Congress – WTC2023 – is under way in Athens this week.

The event opened with the ITACET training course on Risk Management in Tunnelling and Underground Sustainable Solutions on May 12-13 and the ITA General Assembly and working group and committee meetings yesterday.

At the General Assembly, attended by representatives from 50 member nations, it was announced that Pakistan has joined the ITA.

The Pakistan Tunneling and Trenchless Society (PTTS) was established in 2020.

Islamabad is home to the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan, which fosters industry and academia collaboration to promote and advance tunnelling practices.

The WTC2023 conference programme kicked off today with with Professor Marc Panet delivering the Muir Wood Lecture on his Convergence-Confinement Method in tunnel design and Professor Kyriazis Pitilakis from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki giving a keynote address on seismic design and risk assessment of tunnels and underground structures.
