Smallest CREG slurry TBM breaks through in China

6 January 2022

November saw the breakthrough of a 2.845m-Ø CREG slurry TBM in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China.

Despite the unfavorable silt with silty sand and muddy silty-clay ground conditions, the machine – the smallest slurry TBM in China – successfully navigated beneath dense commercial developments and high-rise residential buildings.

Beneath metro Line 1 it had a minimum clearance of 6.6m and achieved a very good performance, with a best daily advance of 23 rings, and a best monthly advance of 399 rings, all without any major defects during its 1,051m drive. The TBM will be re-launched for the next section of the project and will further advance construction of the city’s sewerage pipeline.
