Second TBM starts on southern subway tunnels

The second TBM that will excavate Toronto’s subway project from Sheppard West Station to Finch West Station is being launched this month, a Toronto Transit Commission spokesman said.

Part of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, the TBM, nicknamed ‘Moley’ is expected to bore up to 15m per day and arrive at the Finch Station in early 2012. The first TBM, nicknamed ‘Holey’ launched in July is expected to complete the 2.4km drive to Finch Station later this year.

Contractor Aecon was awarded the contractor for the Sheppard West Subway Station and southern tunnels in November 2010.
