The Tunnellers’ Soirée, to be held on 30 September from 6.30pm to midnight at the picturesque Theobald’s Park in north London will include a drinks reception, three course buffet dinner and entertainment by the Odyssey Blues and Soul Band. The dress code is smart casual.

York Potash announces preferred contractors
Thursday, June 09, 2016 Great Britain – Sirius Minerals has revealed that the Hochtief Murphy joint venture is favoured to construct the mineral transport system at its North Yorkshire polyhalite project. This is the highlight of the York Potash job for the tunnelling industry and consists of a 23-mile (37km), 4.1m-diameter tunnel to transport ore from the mine site to the nearby port.
Britain launches segmental lining code of practice

The document, “Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 8810:2016 – Tunnel Design: Design of concrete segmental linings: Code of practice” was produced by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and lead technical author Arup.
Pipe Jacking Association launches mobile website

Small MEMS gravimeter under development
Tuesday, April 05, 2016 GREAT BRITAIN – A prototype device that detects tiny fluctuations in gravity has been built. The team at the University of Glasgow said that such devices did already exist, but are bulky and expensive. This device, known as a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gravimeter, has the potential to be very cheap and a 1-Watt field prototype around the size of a tennis ball is being developed.
Chris Dulake to join Mott MacDonald

Boris opens Lee Tunnel
Friday, January 29, 2016 GREAT BRITAIN – The Mayor of London officially opened the Lee Tunnel in January. The tunnel, the first of two new high-capacity sewers in to serve Britain’s capital is the largest project in the history of Britain’s privatised water industry.
London bids for WTC 2019
Friday, January 29, 2016 GREAT BRITAIN – The British Tunnelling Society has formally announced its candidacy to host the World Tunnel Congress and ITA General Assembly in 2019. The capital London is the city put forward by the BTS steering committee for the bid in January 2016. The vote will take place at WTC 2016 in San Francisco this April.
