Paraguay – At least 75 prisoners have escaped a prison in Paraguay through a tunnel, according to local media. The men are believed to be part of an infamous 10,000-strong Brazilian criminal organisation called First Capital Command, which deals in drugs and arms trafficking.

Incimmet completes tough ventilation shaft
Colombia – Peruvian mining contractor Incimmet has excavated a 30m-deep, 4.1m-diameter ventilation shaft for the Buriticá mine development project. Ground conditions at the Buriticá complex largely consist of andesite-porphyry, diorites and monzodiorites with intrusive hydrothermal gaps within the volcanic and sedimentary sequences.

CHILE - Züblin has been awarded an EUR 100M (USD 109M) follow-up contract to expand the El Teniente copper mine. The German construction company has been carrying out extensive tunnelling work at the mine since March 2014.

Colombia - The Government of Antioquia in Colombia awarded the contract for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Toyo tunnel in the Urabá Port to a consortium led by FCC’s Citizen Services Group (with a 40 per cent share) and a group of local businesspeople (with the remaining 60 per cent). The contract is worth EUR 392M (USD 429M).

Zoomlion group has opened a production site in Brazil called Zoomlion Cifa Brazil, situated in the city of Indaiatuba, some 90km far from San Paolo. Global engineering firm, Mott MacDonald, is acquiring Habtec Engenharia Ambienta, a Brazilian environmental engineering consultancy, it was announced mid April. São Paulo metro contract awarded
A EUR 20M (USD 27M) contract to install auxiliary systems on São Paulo Metro's Line 5 extension has been awarded. As part of a consortium, Alstom, won the contract, the company stated. The expansion will start in 2013 with the first station, Adolfo Pinheiro, to be inaugurated by the end of the year.

Chilean mining company awards MTM contact
A contract for the delivery and testing of a Mobile Tunnel Miner (MTM) has been confirmed between Aker Wirth and Codelco, the world’s largest producer of copper. The contract, which was signed at the end of 2012, will see the machine tested from mid-2014 in the Chuquicamata mine in Chile where the underground mining of copper is planned for the future.
