Port of Miami spoil storage issues resolved

24 January 2012

Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued a permit to the MAT Concessionaire building the Port of Miami Access Tunnel for depositing spoil on Virginia Key in December.

Testing of spoil produced since the TBM began boring in November has proven the rock to be clean. Up to 280,000 cubic yards (214,075 cubic metres) can be deposited by the contractor. Miami plans to use this rock for a restoration project.
