Open tender launched for Oslo E6 water supply project

22 September 2021

Oslo Municipality and Water Authority recently launched an open tender for the construction of the E6 Rentvannstunnel Clean Water Tunnel to bring treated water from a new plant at Huseby to the capital, Oslo, and also includes construction of new connections to the existing network.

The E6 project is part of creating a reserve water supply for the population of Oslo as, at present, one water source and one treatment plant supply around 90% of the capital. E6 involves much tunnelling in rock, with around 18km of multiple tunnelling drives. The procurement is divided into subcontracts that cover the tunnel drives; construction work in connection with tunnels; and construction work in connection with water and sewage pipelines.

A TBM-bored, segmentally-lined 11km tunnel is to be excavated from Sagene to Trosterud, and will involve around 423,000m3 of rock spoil. In addition, there will be a conventionally-mined tunnel of around 3.5km from the existing Oset water treatment plant to Disen, and other similarly-mined tunnels. Design work for the tunnelling was awarded in 2020 to Multiconsult, the Norway-based international engineering consultancy.

The contract will run from February 2022 to October 2027.
Completed tenders or requests to participate should be received by 20 December 2021.
