Howden – global provider of air- and gas-handling products, technologies and services – has won a major contract to supply ventilation fans for the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange tunnels in Sydney, Australia.

Working for contractor JHCPB-JV for Transport for NSW, the contract forms part of Australia’s largest road project and includes provision of 29 fans to be used across five ventilation facilities at the new underground interchange. The Axial flow fans, which include 450kW and 335kW motors, will provide airflow and control ventilation in the motorway.

Howden claims the fans will save running costs, reducing energy use and CO2 emissions for the client. One of the fans is also fire range tested to achieve certification.

Howden CEO Ross Shuster, said: “The contract to provide fans for the Rozelle Interchange is a great example of how Howden brings solutions that help our customers reduce the environmental impact of their operations, reducing carbon emissions and improving sustainability. It is through projects of this size and significance that we can make a real impact on global carbon emissions.”

Work to deliver the fans involved fire certification, aerodynamic testing and acoustic testing which, due to Covid travel restrictions, was live-streamed and recorded, offering an innovative solution to the customer.
