Eastside Interceptor Rehabilitation phase 2 begins

9 May 2019

USA – The Eastside Interceptor Rehabilitation Project in Renton, Washington has begun. The project will clean, improve and extend the life of approximately 1 mile (1.6km) of 96in (2,400mm) aging sewer pipe that carries 45M gallons (204M litres) of wastewater per day.

Contractor Kiewit will maintain a continuous flow of wastewater through three bypass pipes, which will direct the flow around the main pipe undergoing repair.

Stantec will provide construction management and inspect and oversee the bypass works, which will last from June to September. A spokesperson for the company said of the project, “Minimising community impacts in this busy area is critical. The project includes multiple odor control locations, pedestrian/bicycle path detours, and critical intersection crossings for residents and business. Stantec will work to monitor contractor compliance with safety requirements, traffic control, and permit conditions and support stakeholder outreach efforts.”
