DPWH Baguio district engineer Ireneo Gallato said on 2 May that the funding will be used to implement flood control projects especially in the tunnels of the lagoon that leads to the Asin River.

He said a significant volume of water has been reduced in the lagoon due to the widening of flood water exit which is why there are no flooding incidents happening in the nearby barangays (villages) compared to previous years.

The district engineer explained fortification of tunnel walls is important as it accommodates a huge volume of water especially in the rainy and typhoon season.

The rehabilitation of City Camp Lagoon tunnels was started in 2012 and has received yearly fund allocation to complete the project and improve the flood control mechanisms in nearby barangays.
