Chinese tunnellers break free

3 August 2011

All 12 workers trapped by a tunnel collapse in China have been rescued. Prior to rescue, some four ventilation and supply holes were dug and mobile phones were lowered to the workers.

The workers were pulled through a rescue duct to safety by 4:10pm on 19 July following the collapse in the morning the day before. The ordeal lasted 36 hours.

The collapse occurred at a tunnel on Shengli Road in Dalian, a coastal city in Liaoning Province, northeast China.
