CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER (TUNNELS)

We are seeking a Construction Engineer (Tunnels) to support our program/project management team on the delivery of transit expansion projects in the City of Toronto.

The successful candidate will be part of an integrated team, located in the client's office.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university with 10+ years experience, combined with several years of experience in the inspection and administration of heavy construction projects (preferably underground infrastructure/tunnelling) in an urban environment.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is required.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering and construction management principles and practices, construction techniques and practices, including familiarity with construction and safety laws, contract administration, contract inspection and claims management.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of, and experience in specialized construction scheduling methods and analysis.
  • You must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
  • Must possess sound judgment; strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, verbal communication, and technical report writing skills as well as excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate tact and diplomacy to motivate and work with contractors, designers, end-users, and construction inspection staff.
  • Requires highly developed computer skills in spreadsheets, scheduling and word processing programs.

Reporting to the Resident Superintendent – Bored Tunnels, you are responsible for:

  • Providing various technical, administrative, financial and field functions to ensure the effective administration of construction contracts associated with tunnelling.
  • Engage in both field work as well perform the supporting administrative duties.
  • You will be required to review and interpret contract documents, Request For Information (RFI) submissions, design changes and contractor submissions including scheduling details; monitor the work to ensure the completion of work as specified; analyze construction costs (e.g. materials, change orders, payments) and schedules; identify and bring issues on construction costs and schedule forward for resolution; assist the Resident Superintendent with various reporting activities such as the maintenance of records and progress reports; and perform other field engineering functions as assigned.
  • Attend and organize progress review meetings and convene special meetings as directed by the Resident Superintendent.
  • Assist in detailed schedule planning/analysis, construction claims analysis, constructability reviews, as well as the provision and administration of construction services and labour resource planning.

In this position you will be required you to work outside of normal working hours, for certain assignments.
