He continues working on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project in Los Angeles as lead engineer for construction support services and has undertaken geotechnical tasks on XpressWest High Speed Rail project from Victorville, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada, being provided at an accelerated schedule. He is based in HNTB’s downtown Los Angeles office.

US – Mike Wongkaew, joined HNTB Corporation’s national tunnel group on January 7 as national tunnel practice lead-Northwest and associate vice president. He is based in Bellevue, Washington, and oversees all tunnelling work on the Sound Transit West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension Project. He also serves as an accomplished resource to the firm’s clients and projects across the nation, the company said, adding in his previous capacity, Wongkaew served as chief tunnel engineer for research and development of an innovative underground transportation system.

The Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) announced April 6 the TBM mining the Crenshaw/LAX tunnels arrived at the Leimert Park Station, thereby completing the second of the project’s twin rail tunnels on the underground section of the 8.5-mile (13.6km) line.

A US-based firm has been selected as independent design verifier on the Istanbul Strait Crossing tunnel project in Turkey, which will connect the European and Asian sides of the city by a road tunnel. The project will be delivered by public-private partnership procurement, HNTB stated earlier this month.
