Breakthrough on Thames Tideway West

Great Britain – The first breakthrough on the Thames Tideway project took place last week at King George’s Park in Wandsworth. A 3m diameter Lovat EPBM, Charlotte, is digging the 1.1km Frogmore Connection Tunnel from Wandsworth to Fulham. The breakthrough marked completion of the 500m southern section of the tunnel and the TBM will now be lifted from the shaft, taken back to Dormay Street and placed back into the ground to tunnel 600m north to Fulham.

Great Britain – Morgan Sindall delivered record profits in 2018. The British construction and infrastructure business saw its profitability leap by 23% from GBP 66M (USD 87M) to GBP 81.6M (USD 108M). Revenue was GBP 2.97bn (USD 3.93bn) and the order book stood at GBP 3.6bn (USD 4.76bn).
Hyperloop Challenge taken up in Britain

Great Britain – The British Tunnelling Society (BTS) has formed a task force to take on the Hyperloop Challenge. Hyperloop is a rapid transit concept that involves propelling pressurised capsules down reduced-pressure tubes across great distances at enormous speeds. The challenge is to demonstrate a means to reduce the cost of tunnelling by a factor of ten or more, and so make the Hyperloop concept viable.
